MESSAGE: The following is a special presentation of the FANTASY UNIVERSE NETWORK (TM).
ANNOUNCER: Live from San Francisco, the WORLD EVENT LEAGUE (TM) proudly presents…the 2010 DREAMVANA (TM) Self Discovery Voyage. From the California STATE VENUE (TM) Hills, your hostess for this evening...Josephine...
JOSEPHINE:
The famous Golden Gate Bridge suspends above the water it separates below...the Bay on one side, the Pacific Ocean on the other. And tonight, on those waters, the annual competition to determine the explorer extraordinaire will happen in front of a crowd of over 10,000 eager and anxious fans.
Hello, everyone and welcome to San Francisco, California.
We are here tonight to witness the top water voyagers participate in the self discovery voyage competition.
All in search of that one thing that all of us will search for at one time or another.
This is DREAMVANA (TM) 2010!
Fans and family members are ready for this competition to begin.
But before it gets underway, let's take a look back at how our competitors got here.
Over the past 7 months, 1,000 registered individuals prepared, competed, and advanced through the AUDITION CIRCUIT (TM) Escalating Rounds. As each round progressed through various timed skill competitions, the initial pool got smaller and smaller, reaching tonight's 25 top participants. These individuals are obviously at peace with the sea. And the 7 seas are what they'll travel through, to get to the finish line down there by the bridge.
Here are the rules for the competition.
All 25 participants will start from the starting line under the bridge. They will travel all around the water campus searching for sea marks.
There are 7 sea marks across the 5 square miles of competition. Each sea mark contains 25 different miniature colored lifebuoys.
All lifebuoys have a number from 1 to 7. The farther a sea mark is from the bridge, the higher the number its lifebuoys carry. For example, the 25 lifebuoys on the nearest sea mark all carry the number 1. The ones at the farther sea mark, about 2.5 miles away from the bridge, carry the number 7.
Participants have 3 hours, to sail off, collect as many lifebuoys as they wish, and return with them to the finishing line under the bridge before time expires. The explorer with the highest total score will be declared the winner of DREAMVANA (TM) 2010.
Participants will make their own itinerary. They can navigate where they choose and select which buoys to strive to attain, in which order. However, they may take only 1 from each sea mark.
Each participant will equipped with a compass, a map outlining the sea marks, a telescope, water bottles, a timer, and safety equipment.
And of course a vehicle is required to make all this possible. And a vehicle they have.
There it is right there: the DREAMVANA (TM) Maiden. This vehicle is totally human powered. It is part canoe, part sailboat, and part paddle wheeler. Participants can row the boat with their arms, they can move the boat by paddling with their feet, or they can stand and sail the boat like a ship. What they do and when they do it and how they do it, is up to them.
The last thing to mention is the most important. Each participant must not obstruct any other participant's sailing path. Doing so, will result in a disqualification. Simple as that.
Oh...as for the weather tonight? A little bit of everything. Some clouds, some rain, some sun, some fog, some wind, and I'm sure, some surprises.
Our competitors are ready. Not only will they put themselves to the test, but one of them will go home with a special something.
And it’s right there, standing high, the DREAM VASE (TM) Keepsake which will be handed to the winner of tonight's competition.
So, we are all set. The officials on the umpire vessel will officially start the voyage with the breaking of the champagne bottle on the bow.
We'll return and talk with the winner after the conclusion of the competition! Good luck to everyone!

The 2010 DREAMVANA (TM) Self Discovery Voyage
//
ANNOUNCER: Live from San Francisco, this is the DREAMVANA (TM) Self Discovery Voyage. Once again, your hostess...Josephine...
JOSEPHINE: We say hello once more from the hills by the Bay.
Welcome back to our coverage of DREAMVANA (TM) 2010.
What a competition it was. Nine...that's right...9 of our participants did not make it back in time. And so they were disqualified.
Luckily there were no altercations, so the remaining 16 participants all had something to be proud of...and that's their fine sportsmanship.
As you view the score summaries on the BLINK BANNER (TM) screen ticker, keep in mind, that these scores can't really be compared to previous year's competitions or future ones for that matter, because of the weather.
Mother Nature certainly had some mood swings during the past three hours, since we saw, and these participants felt, a little bit of everything.
And here's a participant who is probably feeling a little numb and little tired...and a little joyous. The DREAMVANA (TM) 2010 winner...Steven! Steven thanks for joining us. Congratulations.
STEVEN: Thank you.
J: How do you feel?
S: I can't believe it's over. But...I'm glad it is!
J: You must be exhausted.
S: Ahhh...I'm just...how can I say...well, I am out of energy for sure, but I'm also very happy...so the two cancel each other out. I'm just dazed.
J: You'll be alright, you'll be OK.
Let's talk about your results. The maximum possible score was 28. You finished with a score of 18. The three next place finishers scored 15, and it went down from there. What was your strategy?
S: To win!
J: That's a good strategy!
S: Yeah. No...I mean...I tried to just enjoy the time out there, but I did want to win obviously. I knew that I wanted to get the 7th score buoy. So that's the first thing I went after. It took a long time to get there, but once I got that, I became a bit more relaxed and worked my way back.
J: You got the 7th score, the 6th and the 5th.
S: Yeah. I was running out of time by then, so I hurried back. I probably could have gotten the 1st, but yeah...you know.
J: Let's talk about the watercraft. Isn't it interesting that it's even called a craft. How knowing the vehicle and knowing your craft...has a lot to do with success?
S: It does. We only got 1 week to become familiar with the vehicles. You have to work with what you get. But, it's good that we had some options in how we made the vehicle move.
I am a much better paddler, than a sailor. I didn't use the sails at all. The wind was OK today. Not so strong. I had the sails to help me a bit. But I relied on my strength and stamina. Sailing is hard, so it's different game.
J: So, you're not an expert on all three things.
S: Not at all. But, I guess I proved you don't have to be. If you're really good at one or two things, you can still be successful. My thing was not to waste time, to come up with what I wanted to do and to go for it. I wanted that 7th score buoy - so I went for it. On the way back, I looked for the 6th score and the 5th score. I knew after that, I was running out of time, so I headed back as soon as I could.
J: And good thing, since you had less than 10 minutes to spare.
There were 24 other competitors competing simultaneously with you. Were you worried about the other competitors? This was a fleet race so there was a lot going on.
S: You know, I was thinking about them, especially toward the end, but you can't focus on them. You have to focus on what you are doing. I knew that a score of 10 or higher was a good score having watched last year and been in the audition pools. So I knew what range I needed to go for to stand a chance of winning.
But their moves impact you...I know that. How they move, where they are. It all has an impact on the waves and the currents. But, it's really all about your own actions.
J: There's an old saying that it's how you react to something that determines what happens to you. You agree with that?
S: Yes. No doubt. Look, I want to be here. I worked hard to get here. I wasn't going to let 3 hours go by and feel miserable throughout it. I wanted to enjoy it, but work hard. And I did that. The others did that too. So, we are all winners in my book.
J: Our DREAMING BOOK (TM) Program Guide for tonight's competition featured a map of the general area, as well as last year's results and routes that previous winners took. Did you use that to help you study?
S: A little. But, no...I mean, we all took our own paths. There was no right or wrong path to take. We were just given a simple map that had general spots where the buoys would be. But it was up to us to actually find them out here. There are so many things that can impact your decisions like the headers and the lifts that you can't just have one game plan. You have to be open to changing your mind.
J: Well, you certainly did that tonight, and you ended winning the DREAM VASE (TM) Keepsake.
S: I can certainly rub that in the other people's faces. No, no, I'm just kidding!
Listen, it was great just being here.
Being on the water, makes you feel you’re living on a moving, changing, alive environment. It's the only time I feel that. You don't really sense that walking on dirt.
The coolest thing about being on the water is how humbling it is. You can never be the master of the sea. It is the master. You have to respect it. It moves, it flows, it changes, it does things you don't expect. So, you have to be ready to change your ideas or your original plans. I mean you can be very smart, and very skillful, and have all the high tech gadgets, and all the experience, but the sailing on the waters is always something you can never fully prepare for.
J: Many voyagers have said that the seas make you feel like sometimes it will take care of you, sometimes it will fight you, sometimes it will be unstable, and sometimes it will be serene. And that there will be hardly any signs that you were there on it. It washes everything clean.
S: The only thing I can take away from it, is what I actually did out there. And I certainly will.
J: Any last shout-outs?
S: I got to thank my coach, and my family for their support. My coach is really the best. He said something I always repeat to myself. You got to see it to believe it. And when you believe it, you'll live it.
J: Well, you certainly saw in your mind what you wanted to accomplish, worked hard, formed good habits, and made it work. Congratulations again.
S: Thanks.
J: Navigating the waters is one of the oldest human activities. It has helped advance humankind.
It has helped humans explore, discover, connect, trade, conquer, and collaborate.
And tonight we once again saw how the mighty ocean can sway you to places you never knew existed...not just around you, but deep inside of you.
The rest of tonight's activities will take place at the park, where I am sure all of our participants will be relaxing with their favorite beverages and chatting over tonight's results.
From all of us here at FUN BROADCASTING (TM), thanks for watching!
May your voyages be memorable!
Good night!
